COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Fisherman all across Michigan can leave their wallets at home this Saturday and Sunday, as the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) hosts its annual winter Free Fishing Weekend.
For two full days, the state will waive all fishing license fees for both residents and non-residents. Participants may fish for all species on both inland waters and the Great Lakes, though all other fishing regulations, including size limits and daily bag limitsremain in full effect.
The “free” theme extends beyond the water. The DNR is also waiving the Recreation Passport requirement, granting free vehicle entry to all 103 Michigan state parks and more than 1,000 DNR-managed boating access sites.
With varying weather conditions reported across the state, officials are urging extreme caution for those heading onto the ice.
