COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – In girls high school swimming and diving Tuesday, Coldwater fell at home to Mattawan 115-71. Despite the loss, two team records were set by Jillian McKinley in the 100 Butterfly and by Jayda Kelly in the 200 Individual Medley. Kelly won the 200 I.M. as well as the 100 breaststroke.
Kordelia Ulrich won the 500 freestyle while McKinley won the 100 backstroke and was second in the 100 butterfly. In addition, Rebekka Lund was third in the 50 Freestyle and second in the 100 Backstroke while Mia Rzepka was second in the one meter dive.
The Coldwater girls swim again next Tuesday at Battle Creek Central at 6:00 p.m..
Cross Country—
The Bronson boys defeated Centreville 19-41 while the Bronson girls did not have enough runners for a team score. The Vikings took the top three spots in the boys race. Luis Ortiz won in the a time of 18:53.27. He was followed by teammates Reagan Mayer and Ben Thomas Grate. Bronson’s Xochitl Garcia won the girls race by over a minute in a time of 21:03.72. Alison Fish was fourth and Abby Ware was sixth.
The Quincy boys were eighth while the girls finished fifth on Tuesday at the Eaton Rapids Class Invitational. The meet was divided into two classes. Top finishers for Quincy in the junior/senior race were Ian Trall for the boys and Madelyn Allman who was 14th in the girls race. Top Quincy finishers in the freshman/sophomore races were Erik Butchart and Elise Wright.
Girls Volleyball—
Bronson 3, Springport 0 (25-12, 25-13, 25-15)
Meagan Lasky had 27 assists for the Vikings while Ashton Wronikowski had 10 kills and Kiera Lasky had nine digs and four aces.
Union City 3, Quincy 0 (25-14, 25-22, 25-17)
Lexi George had 13 assists for the Chargers while Bracy Swift had 13 kills. Swift and Sydney Falkner both had eight digs. Syndey Markley served six aces.
Union City also won the J.V. match over Quincy 2-0 (26-24, 25-16)
—-MIDDLE SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL—
The Legg Middle School 8th grade A team lost to Jackson Northwest in the first two games, but rallied to win the third Tuesday evening at Coldwater High School. Leading the Lady Cardinals were Karlie Knisley who served 11 points including 4 aces followed by Maddison Earl who served 6 points including 3 aces. The eighth grade squads will play at Jackson Lumen Christi next Tuesday night.
The 8th grade B team fell to Jackson Northwest Tuesday evening at Coldwater High School. The Cardinals rallied to win the third set 15-8 after dropping the first two sets 22 – 25, and 23 – 25 respectively. The Lady Cardinals were led by Abigail Jones who served for 11 points including 6 aces and Ashlyn Britton who served for 7 points including 5 aces.
The Legg Middle School 7th grade “A” volleyball team defeated Jackson Northwest in three games (25-18 22-25 15-7) as they improved to 2-0. They will play in the Marshall Redhawk tournament on Saturday. Isabella Pool was 10 – 10 serving with 4 aces, McKenzie Scheid 9 – 9 with 3 aces, Hailey Price 6 – 6 with 3 aces & Caroline Miller 7 – 7 with 3 aces.
The 7th grade girls “B” volleyball team went 2-1 against Northwest on Tuesday (15-25, 25-22, and 15-3). Leading the Lady Cardinals was Yarisbell Martinez with 3 aces, Elizabeth Wainscot and Violet Cunkle with 1 ace each. The team is now 2-0 for the season.
