COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Last week Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s administration unveiled aa $88.1 billion budget proposal for fiscal year 2027, marking her eighth and final executive recommendation before leaving office due to term limits.
The plan, presented , by State Budget Director Jen Flood, focuses on “kitchen-table issues” such as student literacy, infrastructure, and senior tax relief while navigating a projected $1.8 billion funding gap.
The Budget called for a number of tax increase including “Sin” Taxes by increasing cigarette taxes from $2 to $3 per pack, implementing a new tax on vaping products, and raising taxes on online gaming and sports betting, as well as a new tax on digital ads for large platforms like Google and Meta.

Lindsey says with Whitmer term limited and not up for re election she decided to go big on the budget
Whitmer has said she wants the 2027 budget passed by the July 1st deadline this year.
