Man with multiple drunk driving convictions charged with OVI after crashing through Angola liquor store

ANGOLA, IN (WTVB) – An Angola man with five previous drunk driving convictions is in more legal trouble after crashing his car into the Gay’s Party Store just off North Wayne Steet in Angola late Monday morning while allegedly intoxicated.

Police say 69-year-old John E. Surfus is charged Level 6 felony operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a prior conviction and Class A misdemeanor operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing endangerment.

Surfus had a blood alcohol level of 0.225% more than double the legal limit.

There were no reported injuries other then Surfac himself complaining of dizziness, he was first taken to Cameron Health and once cleared he was booked into the Steuben County Jail.

If convicted he faces more than three years in prison and a $10,000 fine .
