Joanne (Jo) E. Dean, 91, of Coldwater peacefully departed February 19, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.
In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place. In honor of Joanne’s memory, a private memorial will be held at a later date.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater.
Joanne, born November 4, 1934 in Rockford, IL, to Edward and Lila (Champion) Lohman, embraced a life marked by love, service, and meaningful connections. Joanne’s journey included graduating from Rockford High and pursuing higher education at DePauw University. In 1954, she entered into matrimony with D. Jack Youngquist, and together they welcomed three children: Cheryl L. Corless, David J. Youngquist, and Mark A. Youngquist. Although their paths diverged in 1967, Joanne’s commitment to family endured.
In 1967, Joanne married John T. Dean, sharing 32 years of companionship and building a life together.
Joanne’s impact extended beyond her roles as a wife and mother. She dedicated numerous years as the Director of Volunteers at Coldwater Community Hospital, leaving an indelible mark on the community she served. She was an active member of Altrusa International of Branch County where Joanne assumed the role of Past President, contributing her time and energy to philanthropic endeavors.
Her spiritual journey led her to the United Methodist Church, where she found solace and community. Known for her passion for bridge, Joanne found joy and fulfillment in the company of friends, cherishing the moments spent at the card table whether at home or at the Burnside Senior Center.
She also loved spending time at the lake, gardening, and going for walks with her dog Peanut. Her vibrant spirit and love for life resonated with all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Joanne is survived by her children, Cheryl (James) Corless, Mark (Susan) Youngquist; her stepson, Jeff (Teresa) Dean and her grandchildren: Keegan (Leti) Corless, Kendall (Palak) Corless, Lindsey Youngquist, Taylor (Tyler) Johnson, Morgan (Casey) Longstreet, Eric (Chris) Dean, Jesseca (Christopher Johnson) Farst-Dean, and her 11 great-grandchildren. She is also remembered by her sister, Carolyn Clark and her niece and nephew.
Joanne was preceded in death by her husband, John T. Dean, infant son, David J. Youngquist, and stepson, Gregg Dean and brother-in-law John Clark.
Memorial contributions may be made to the H. & C. Burnside Senior Center in Coldwater, MI, reflecting Joanne’s commitment to community and connection.
