BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – The boys basketball regular season ended for Big 8 Conference teams Thursday night, and Bronson locked up fourth place in the final conference standings with a 62-48 win against cross-county rival Union City.
Warner Wotta led all scorers with 17 points for Bronson, while Joe Fair scored 12 and and Owen Losinski had 11 as the Vikings improved to 10-12 overall, 7-7 in the Big 8.
Micah Payne had a team-high 14 points to pace Union City, with 13 from Liam Payne and 12 from Nolan Chard. The Chargers fell to 6-16 overall and 5-9 in the Big 8.
Bronson and Union City open up MHSAA Boys Basketball Tournament play next week in the semifinals of the Division 3 District at Centreville High School. At 5:30 p.m. next Wednesday, the Vikings will face the winner of Monday’s Constantine-White Pigeon showdown. The Chargers will square off against the host Bulldogs next Wednesday at 7 p.m., with the winners playing for the District title next Friday at 7 p.m.
Elsewhere, Quincy dropped a 54-45 home decision to Stockbridge in their regular season finale. The Orioles fell to 10-11 overall and tied with Union City for fifth in the Big 8 standings at 5-9.
Quincy’s next game will be against Hillsdale next Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the semifinals of the Division 3 Addison District.
Springport clinched the outright Big 8 championship with their 73-48 win against Reading, while Concord defeated Maple Valley 66-45 to lock up the runner-up slot in the conference standings.
