COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A century old Coldwater business will soon be closing, as its owners have decided to retire.
The retirement sale for Wilbur’s Furniture at 27 West Chicago will start Thursday, September 13. The store will be closing at the end of October after serving the area since 1917.
Owner Tom Miller said in a letter posted on the store’s website that it is with a heavy heart he makes the announcement that the store is closing but he added, “several recent events have made it evident to me that it is time for me to retire.” He also said this was the most difficult decision he has ever had to make.
Every item in the store will be liquidated as everything in the store must be sold. Special invitations have been sent to local customers for the first week of the sale.
The closing of Wilber’s Furniture comes just over two years after Howard and Lola Taylor retired and closed Taylor’s Stationers and Taylor’s Books and More at the corner of Hanchett and Chicago Streets downtown.
