CENTREVILLE, MI (WTVB) – Fernando Cruz is being held in the St. Joseph County Jail on a quarter million dollars bond after he was talked into bringing his children back after he had taken them without permission and after striking his wife. He is charged with three counts of kidnapping, domestic violence, fleeing and eluding and weapons charges. He admitted during his arraignment that he had been using meth and that he needed help.
The children were not harmed. Cruz has a history of domestic assault which could play a role in the length of his sentence, if convicted.
The kidnapping and subsequent return of the children were the subject of an AMBER Alert that was issued on Thursday.
