BATTLE CREEK, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater opened its quest for a fourth straight MHSAA Girls Basketball District trophy Monday night with a 61-36 win against Loy Norrix in the first round of the Division 1 District at the Battle Creek Central Fieldhouse.
The Cardinals overcame a bit of a slow start, trailing 12-11 after one. They outscored the Knights 17-4 in the second quarter to take a 28-16 halftime lead. Coldwater led 42-29 through three and put the game away with a 19-7 fourth quarter.
Mya Porter led all scorers with 19 points, 4 rebounds, and 6 assists. Rylie VanAken added 12 points, 3 boards, and 3 assists, and Coley Burkhardt had a 10 point, 14 rebound double-double.
The Cardinals will take a 16-7 record into Wednesday’s District Semifinal game against Gull Lake. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m., with coverage on WTVB starting at 6:45 p.m.
Jordyn Ivy had a team-high 12 points for Loy Norrix, whose season came to an end with a 5-17 record.

The first game of Monday’s District doubleheader saw a classic Cereal City battle, as Lakeview got past Battle Creek Central 47-42. The Spartans improved to 13-10 and will take on Sturgis Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
