COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – After Branch County voters approved a millage request for a new Branch County Jail three weeks ago by nearly 600 votes (4,119 to 3,521), the Branch County Board of Commissioners Tuesday officially approved an amended tax rate request from Interim Equalization Director Jody Connell.
The request included the recently passed jail millage. The 1.25 mills that would fund the new jail will be levied on December first. The jail millage, which can be refinanced after seven years, will expire in December of 2037.
Meanwhile, with Commissioners Ted Gordon and Terri Norris absent from Tuesday’s meeting, the three remaining commissioners decided to table a resolution opposing the legalization of marijuana for general use. The resolution is the same as one adopted in Otsego County.
