ANGOLA, IN (WTVB) – A Sunday night fire that destroyed a mobile home and severely damaged a residential home in Steuben County is under investigation this morning.
Angola fire crews were dispatched just after 7:30 p.m. to the 4000 block of West Orland Road, that’s the third basin of Crooked Lake, for a fully engulfed trailer fire, by the time the first crews arrived the blaze had spread to a neighboring home.
Upon arrival AFD fire units had two structures engulfed in flames with damage to a third structure. The homeowner of the mobile home was not at home at the time of the fire, the house to the west that sustained heavy damage was unoccupied at
the time of the fire.
The home to the east of the mobile home sustained heat damage to the exterior and was unoccupied as well and had just went through a remodel.
Angola Fire Chief Bill Harter says “This could have been much worse, efforts of our first arriving crews with the assistance of our mutual aid partners we got the fire knocked down and was able to save the third structure before it to became engulfed”.
Fire investigators from the Angola Fire Department and from Indiana Fire Marshals office will return to the scene today to try and determine the cause.
