UNION CITY, (WTVB) – Residents and Village officials in Union City are beginning the arduous task of rebuilding after a devastating the devastating tornado ripped through the Union City and Union Lake area on Friday, afternoon, leaving three people dead and at least a dozen others injured.
The Village is now looking to the state of Michigan to assist in what Village Manager Chris Mathis called the massive cost of recovery, which will include the tens of thousands of dollars to repair the infrastructure around Union Lake and the restoration of approximately seventy damaged or destroyed buildings.
Mathis expressed hope that the state of Emergency declared by Governor Gretchen Whitmer on Sunday will unlock critical funding through the Michigan Emergency Management Act to help the municipality cover these emergency response and repair expenses.
