COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Sheriff’s Department now has an important tool to stop severe bleeding, thanks to a collaborative effort in southwest Michigan.
They have received 70 tourniquet holsters from the Tourniquet on Person Agency which is made up of the Western Michigan UniversityHomer Stryker School of Medicine, the Eric Zapata Foundation, and the Oshtemo Fire Department.
This will allow deputies to have the tourniquet on their belts instead of having it stored in a medical bag in their cruiser.
The quick application of a tourniquet will save valuable seconds when arterial bleeding is taking place.
The TOP program has spent about $20,000 since last year on the holsters and over 1,000 have been distributed.
