COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – An emergency waiver of demolition fees for Union Lake residents impacted by the March 6 tornado was approved on Thursday by Branch County Commissioners following a recommendation from Emergency Management Director Tim Miner and County Administrator Frank Walsh.
The Commissioners suspended board rules during their work session and approved the extension for 21 days through April 8.
It was scheduled to expire on Thursday after Board Chair Randall Hazelbaker signed the original Emergency Order on March 12.
The waiver covers the removal of storm-damaged structures on Tuttle Road, Prairie Rose Lane, and Tuttle Park Drive in order to facilitate immediate safety and the clearing of debris.
Miner told Commissioners on Thursday the tornado affected nearly 70 structures and that a lot of homes were not repairable.
Three persons died in the EF-3 tornado while another 12 were injured.
