ANGOLA, IN (WTVB) – A Kalamazoo woman was extradited to Steuben County this week to face multiple felony charges following a 2024 retail theft and a high-speed pursuit that injured a police officer.
28-year-old Journey M. Buchanan, of Kalamazoo, was booked into the Steuben County Jail , after being held in Branch County on separate charges.
The charges stem from an October 19, 2024, incident at the Angola Meijer, where Buchanan and two other suspects allegedly attempted to flee with over $1,700 worth of stolen liquor.
During the attempted apprehension, Buchanan reportedly jumped into a vehicle and accelerated, throwing an officer to the ground and causing injury. The resulting pursuit crossed state lines into Branch County at speed over 100 mph, where she was eventually taken into custody.
Buchanan now faces several serious charges in Steuben County, including battery against a public safety officer engaged in official duty, criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon, resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, and five counts of theft.
Buchanan remains in the Steuben County Jail.
