ALLENDALE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Members of a West Michigan community spoke out at a virtual meeting Monday evening after video had surfaced of a planning commissioner taking part in the riots and insurrection at the U.S. Capitol on January 6th.
WOOD-TV reports that it was well into the meeting when Allendale Township Supervisor Alan Ellenbaas talked about the topic. He said that he is looking at the videos as they come through to determine which of the accusations are credible. Ellenbaas also says he doesn’t agree with all of Commissioner Ryan Kelley’s actions. Several residents want Kelley to resign for his role in the destruction in Washington D.C. that day.
In October 2020, a township board meeting was packed with residents calling for Kelley’s removal after it came to light that he invited militia members to a summer 2020 protest in Allendale. Kelley says he was not in contact with any militia members.
