COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Thanks to the rain which has fallen over the last week, most of Branch County is no longer abnormally dry according to the latest report from the U.S. Drought Monitor Service at the University of Nebraska.
The weekly map which was released Thursday shows a small northwest corner of Sherwood Township is still considered abnormally dry, along with a portion of northeast St. Joseph County, northern and eastern Hillsdale County, and the southern part of Calhoun County.
Moderate drought conditions remain in northern Calhoun County.
The survey shows nearly 22 percent of Michigan is in a moderate drought which is down from about 26 percent the previous week.
The moderate drought area covers the northern Lower Peninsula as well as parts of the thumb and south central Michigan.
MSU-Extension says Coldwater has gotten 1.51 inches of rain during the first nine days of August after only getting 3.8 inches during June and July.
