COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Cardinal softball team opened up Interstate 8 play Thursday with a pair of decisive wins against Marshall, 18-3 in 4 innings and 11-4.
In the first game, the Cardinals overcame an early 1-0 deficit with 5 runs in the first inning, 3 in the second, and 5 each in the third and fourth as they collected 15 hits. Mya Porter doubled and homered and drove in 3 runs, Vandria Bucklin went 3-for-4 with a double and 5 RBIs, Coley Burkhardt had an RBI triple, and Rylie VanAken was 4-for-4. Laynie VanAken allowed 8 hits with a walk and 5 strikeouts.
Not to be outdone, Coldwater had 13 hits in the nightcap, including a 2-run homer from Burkhardt and a solo homer from Rylie VanAken, who went 3-for-4 in the game and finished 7-for-8 on the night. Addyson Bucklin was 3-for-4 and brought home 2 runs, and Laynie VanAken drove in 4 runs with her single and double. Winning pitcher Audrina Bucklin allowed 4 hits with a walk and fanned 3.
The Cardinals improved to 4-0 overall, 2-0 in the Interstate 8, and will take part in a round-robin tournament at Stevensville Lakeshore on Saturday.

ADDISON, MI – Quincy improved to 4-0 with a non-conference doubleheader sweep at Addison, 18-3 in 4 innings and 8-5 in 5 innings.
In the opener, the Orioles jumped out to a 9-0 first inning lead and never looked back. Leadoff hitter Miley Poindexter almost completed the cycle; she singled, doubled, and tripled, bringing home 3 runs in the process. Mackenzie Sattison went 3-for-4 and drove in a pair of runs, and Josi Parker had 4 RBIs. On the circle, Parker struck out 8 and walked 2 in her 4 innings of work.
The nightcap saw Quincy score 5 runs in the fifth to put the game away. Makiya Feltner had two hits and 2 RBIs, with Gabby Norris also driving in a pair of runs. Taylor Lewis earned the victory in relief of starting pitcher Hannah Brown.
The Orioles are back in action Friday at Springport.
