COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Monday’s double round of heavy thunderstorms in Branch County provided much needed rain in some areas but high winds with the storms also brought down trees across the county and caused power outages.
The first wave of strong weather which generally took a northwest to southeast path across the region, arrived around 2:00 p.m. and there were a handful of calls into Branch County 911 Central Dispatch of trees down across the road.
The second system of storms, which were more intense, rolled into the county about 6:00 p.m. and the downpours and gusty winds were noted at the Branch County Memorial Airport National Weather Service website until 8:30 p.m. Monday. The Central dispatch log listed another half dozen trees down, making it a busy evening removing limbs for the County Road Commission.
In addition, the Bronson Fire Department was called out to a home in Bethel Township on Sprung Lake Drive, where a limb came down over wires and the lines then touched onto the roof of the residence.
Consumers Energy said about 1,300 of its customers in west and northwest Branch County and eastern St. Joseph County lost power last night, but all should have it restored sometime this morning.
