BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – A thunderstorm that moved through Branch County early Monday evening forced the cancellation of scheduled varsity girls soccer games at Coldwater and Bronson.
At Coldwater, officials tried to mitigate the effect of the coming storm by shortening the JV game between the Cardinals and Sturgis to two 30-minute halves and starting the contest early. Despite all that, the game was called due to lightning with under 4 minutes left and the Trojans prevailing 3-1. Layla Batiste scored the only Coldwater goal on a penalty kick early in the second half.
A makeup date has not yet been announced for the Sturgis-Coldwater varsity game or for Bronson’s contest against Stockbridge.
Both teams return to action on Thursday. The Cardinals will open up Interstate 8 play hosting Marshall, while the Vikings travel to Olivet.
