FREEPORT, BAHAMAS (WTVB) – Authorities in the Bahamas have released a 58-year-old Michigan man from custody without charges following his questioning regarding the disappearance of his wife at sea.
Brian Hooker was released from a Bahaman police station Tuesday night, leaving alongside his attorney while declining to provide a statement to waiting reporters. While the initial investigation led to his detention, officials have not yet confirmed if Hooker is free to return to the United States or if he must remain in the country pending further inquiries.
The investigation began after Hooker reported to Bahamian investigators that his wife had fallen overboard during a period of rough seas. According to his account, the incident occurred unexpectedly, and a subsequent search of the area failed to locate her.
Despite the gravity of the disappearance, police officials have not provided specific details regarding the evidence collected or the timeline of the events leading up to Hooker’s release.
Hooker’s attorney maintained his client’s innocence throughout the process, stating that police held no evidence linking the Michigan man to any criminal activity.
