BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – It was a very challenging Thursday on the high school sports scene around Branch County. Overnight storms Wednesday, coupled with more rain that moved through Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning, forced the cancellation of a large chunk of the day’s schedule. Other events that were started had to be abandoned after another round of heavy rain invaded the area.
Both Coldwater and Bronson were able to get their girls soccer games in. And the Bronson boys golf team was able to complete a 9-hole match against Colon at Bella Vista Golf Golf Course, with the Magi defeating the Vikings 195-224.
As for Thursday’s other scheduled events:
- Coldwater started its baseball doubleheader at Three Rivers, but the first game was called with one out in the bottom of the second inning and the Cardinals trailing 3-0.
- Quincy’s baseball twinbill at Hanover-Horton was cancelled.
- Union City’s baseball doubleheader against Buchanan was rescheduled for Friday and relocated to Buchanan due to the condition of the diamond at Alumni Field.
- Coldwater’s softball twinbill against Three Rivers was rescheduled for Friday at the Rotary Softball Complex.
- Bronson’s softball doubleheader against Buchanan has tentatively been rescheduled for next Friday, April 24.
- Coldwater’s boys golf team traveled to MSU’s Forest Akers East Golf Course to take part in the PGA REACH Invitational hosted by Hillsdale Academy. Head coach John Petzko told us, “It was called after eight holes due to the course being pretty much under water. It rained hard from 10:30 to 1:30. Greens had rivers and lakes. It was a miserable day.”
- Girls tennis matches for Coldwater (at Battle Creek Lakeview) and Bronson (at Galesburg-Augusta) were called off.
