Jean Ann Hare, 83, of Panama City, Florida, formerly of Union City, Michigan, went to her heavenly home on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at The Blake Senior Living Community in Panama City Beach, Florida, after a long battle with Lewy Body Dementia.
Jean has been cremated and a graveside service will held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, April 18, 2026 at Riverside Cemetery in Union City. Pastor Dan Maurer from the Union City Wesleyan Church will officiate. The family is being served by Lighthouse Funeral & Cremation in Union City.
Jean was born on September 11, 1942 to John “Clarence” and Vivian (Edwards) Snyder in Waterloo, Iowa. She graduated from Maquoketa High School with the Class of 1960. On July 10, 1960, she married Claude Hare II in Maquoketa, Iowa. He preceded her in death on July 13, 2016. They were married for 56 years and had four children.
Jean graduated from the University of Iowa with a Bachelor of Science Nursing Degree. She went on to obtain a Master’s Degree in Public Health Administration from Western Michigan University. She spent over 30 years in the health care field working as a nurse both in Iowa and Michigan, and eventually serving as Director of the Southern Michigan Diabetes Outreach Network.
Faith was of the utmost importance to Jean and her family. Jean was a talented musician who faithfully served as church organist for most of her adult life, first at Edgewood Baptist and Shueyville United Methodist churches in Iowa, at Union City Wesleyan Church in Michigan and then at the Sundance Non-Denominational Church in Port Richey, Florida where they had a second home.
Jean was an incredible wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter and sister. She lived a life of commitment, integrity and compassion and was beloved by all who knew her. Left to carry on Jean’s legacy of faith, family and community are her children; sons, Jeffrey (Kristen) Hare of Costa Mesa, CA, and Bradley (Becky) Hare of Tipp City, OH, and a daughter, Christine (Keith) Barnes of Panama City, Florida. Grandchildren Andrew (Carol) Hare, Jordan (Carlin) Hare, Bryan (DeAnna) Barnes, Kellyn Barnes, Kathleen (Vikas) Desraj, Alec (Lauren) Hare, Tyler (Marissa) Hare, Haley Noe and Riley Minor; her great-grandchildren Conor Barnes, Killian Barnes, Mackenzie Wentworth, Hayden Wentworth, Baylor Noe, Addaleigh Hare, Macy Hare, Winter Hare, Brooks Hare, Bennett Hare, Henry Hare, Molly Jean Hare, August Desraj, and Sheperd Desraj; her sister Joyce Dodds, and sisters-in-law Caroline Sue McAfee and Gay (Dennis) Storlie as well as brothers-in-law John Hare, William Hare, Tom (Dawn) Hare and many beloved nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband Claude, Jean was preceded in death by her parents; her in-laws, Rose Hare and John Hare; her daughter, Kathleen Hare (1968); her brother Kenneth Snyder; brothers-in law Robert Hare, Roderick Dodds, Barney McAfee and Gary Houston; sisters-in-law Lois Houston, Barb Hare and Susan Hare.
