LANSING, MI (WTVB) – State Representative Jennifer Wortz (R-Quincy) has introduced House Bills 5594-96, proposing a one-year moratorium on data center developments to allow for the implementation of stricter regulations and the repeal of existing tax incentives.
Wortz contends that data centers should not receive tax breaks or operate under secret agreements with townships, arguing that taxpayers and ratepayers should not shoulder the costs of new infrastructure and increased energy demand.
Worts says the state does not have the energy capacity to support Data Centers and they aren’t wanted in rural areas
The House Oversight Subcommittee will hold a meeting for public comment on the issue this Wednesday, April 22nd, starting at 10:00 a.m. Residents interested in providing two minutes of testimony are encouraged to sign up via the provided online form. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSetkk2bSs4rcXmvg07JeqNOkjrPFEe8WTvLfH9WL3aV4z9EtQ/viewform
