STEUBEN COUNTY, IN (WTVB) – It was a stinky conclusion to a pursuit that went through three counties late Wednesday night.
The Steuben County Sheriff’s Department says deputies were initially sent to a complaint of intoxicated persons in the drive through of the Wendy’s restaurant at the Pilot truck stop on old U.S. 27 just south of the state line.
Deputies found a vehicle matching the description given and said they saw it commit several traffic violations.
The vehicle failed to stop and led police into Lagrange County. The pursuit went into Sturgis and ended when the vehicle drove into a retention pond at the Sturgis Waste Water Treatment Plant.
The driver was identified as 27-year-old Travis Fitch of Fremont, Indiana. He along with a couple of passengers, 41-year-old James Scott of Kendallville, Indiana and 30-year-old Brandon Shockley of Muncie, Indiana were not injured.
The investigation was turned over to Sturgis Police.
The Steuben County Sheriff’s Department says the vehicle involved in the pursuit was reportedly stolen in Hillsdale. Controlled substances were also found in the vehicle.
