LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A third grade teacher at Saugatuck’s Douglas Elementary has been honored with a Michigan Lottery Excellence in Education award.
Leah Haworth was nominated by the parent of two of her students and says her struggle with learning to read in elementary school inspired her to become a teacher.
Haworth has been awarded a $2,000 cash prize and is in the running with other weekly award winners for the Lottery’s Educator of the Year award and a $10,000 cash prize.
She earned both a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree from Central Michigan University. Haworth has been a teacher for five years, the last four in her current position.
The Michigan Lottery says she is known for molding students into kind, confident, and successful individuals.
