WILLIAMS COUNTY, OH (WTVB) – The Michindoh Aquifer which serves a portion of Branch and Hillsdale Counties has become the source of a growing controversy in Williams County, Ohio.
Artesian of Pioneer, Ohio is being pursued by suburbs in Toledo to test drill the Aquifer to see if it’s possible to sell drinking water to them.
But the Hillsdale Daily News reports the plan to sell the water is opposed by some Williams County governments. The city of Bryan, Ohio, has passed a resolution against outside entities withdrawing water from the Aquifer. The Williams County Board of Commissioners are against the plan as well.
The Michindoh Aquifer covers over two million acres across nine counties in Michigan, Indiana and Ohio abd provides water to about 400,000 people.
Some feel the aquifer has the potential to provide water for the next 40 years to at least eight other communities.
Those opposed don’t say they don’t want to see the water dry up.
