UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – Michigan state legislators and community leaders recently gathered at a Union City Community Schools board meeting to formally honor the district’s rapid and extensive response to the devastating EF-3 tornado that struck month.
State Representative Jennifer Wortz , alongside Representative Steve Frisbie and Senator Jon Lindsey , presented a legislative resolution recognizing the district for transforming Union City High School into a 24-hour community disaster relief hub.
The tribute highlighted the school’s critical role in providing emergency shelter, meals, and counseling, as well as coordinating massive volunteer efforts to support families who lost homes in the Sherwood and Union township areas.
During the ceremony, local organizations including the Union Lake Association bolstered these recovery efforts with a $10,000 donation to the school-led relief coalition.
