COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Three special use permit requests involving a child group daycare home expansion, the conversion of commercial space into a residential unit and a proposed restaurant drive-through are all scheduled to come before the Coldwater Planning Commission on Monday night.
Amanda Hall has made a special land use permit request for the expansion of a child group daycare home for between seven and 12 children at 51 South Polk which is in an A-1 One-Family Residential district.
In addition, property owner Paul Manthri is seeking a special use permit for Multi-Family Residential use within the C-2 Central Business District located at 165 West Chicago. He bought the property last January. The commercial storefront is attached to a five-unit multi-family residential building on Walnut Street. The 4,100 square foot storefront was built almost 60 years ago and it has hosted a number of commercial tenants over the years. But City Planner Dean Walrack says in his report for Monday’s meeting that his staff has several concerns with the proposal including existing Rental and Property Maintenance Code violations and that the application be denied.
The Planning Commission is also scheduled to consider a special use permit request from Victor Face Enterprises of Jonesville for a Biggby Coffee drive-through within a C-1 Community Business district at 490 West Chicago Street. The site is a vacant lot located between the Westside Shell and the Kids’ Campus daycare. The building will not be open to walk-in traffic.
