TALLADEGA, AL (WTVB) – Portage native Carson Hocevar claimed his first career NASCAR Cup Series victory on Sunday, outdueling Chris Buescher with a dramatic last-lap pass to win the Jack Link’s 500 at Talladega Superspeedway.
The 23-year-old, driving the No. 77 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet, utilized a critical drafting push from Alex Bowman on the final circuit to edge Buescher’s No. 17 Ford by a razor-thin margin of 0.114 seconds. The breakthrough win marks the first for Spire Motorsports since 2019 and makes Hocevar the 13th driver in NASCAR history to secure their maiden Cup victory at the iconic 2.66-mile oval.
