COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The 16th annual Branch County Collation Against Domestic And Sexual Violence “Walk A Mile in Their Shoes” fundraiser this past Saturday has been deemed a rousing success.
Despite the chilly temperatures early Saturday morning, the large turnout that brought the event to South Monroe Street successfully surpassed its goal of $70,000,besting last year’s total of $68,000.
These funds are earmarked for the Naomi Davis Shelterhouse, providing essential support and services for survivors of domestic and sexual violence as the organization faces potential federal budget cuts.
The morning’s festivities kicked off on Monroe Street with a pancake breakfast at the Broadway Grill and various family activities before the main attraction: a march where men famously donned high heels to symbolically stand against abuse.
This year’s expanded event also featured a 5K “Running Against Domestic Violence” race and a pet-friendly “Walk A Mile in Their Paws” segment.
The Branch County Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence hailed the community’s generosity as a “flood of hope” that ensures continued advocacy for those in need across the area.
