COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Community Schools Board of Education approved the extension of a Memorandum of Agreement between City of Coldwater Police Department and C.C.S. for two School Resource Officers on Monday night.
The agreement between the district and the city was initially approved in 2020. The current School Resource Officers are Noah Aljabaly at Coldwater High School and Antesar Azookari at Legg Middle School.
Azookari was named the S.R.O. at Legg in 2023 after a $109,00 grant was made available by the State of Michigan.
But the state’s $25 million School Resource Officer Grant Program ended after three years. The program supported 195 school districts, intermediate school districts, and public-school academies in Michigan.
Coldwater School Superintendent Paul Flynn said the district’s S.R.O. program was important. With the state grant program coming to an end, Flynn stated the district’s financial portion of the agreement will be paid out of its general fund.
