Carol L. Hatfield, 86, of Coldwater, Michigan passed away Sunday, May 3, 2026 at her home after a prolonged illness.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, May 7, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater.
Visitation will take place prior to the service from 9:30-11:00 a.m.. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery in Ossian, Indiana at 1:30 p.m..
Carol was born December 4, 1939 in Angola, Indiana, to Joseph Thrasher and Crystal (Knight) Thrasher. She later met and married Rex W. Hatfield in 1961. Rex preceded her in death in 1995. Carol later found companionship with Jim Fillmore, with whom she shared many loving years.
Carol devoted much of her life to her family as a homemaker, always putting the needs of others first. She also expressed her creativity as an artist and spent time working as a teacher’s assistant. She was a member of the Blue Moon Art Group. Carol had a deep love for flowers and gardening, enjoyed reading, and had a special fondness for St. Bernards.
She was known for her kindness and wit, and she especially cherished her role as a grandmother. One of her greatest joys was creating art with her grandchildren.
Carol is survived by her loving partner, Jim Fillmore; her children, Craig (Patti) Hatfield, Stuart Baird (Melissa) Hatfield, and Tara (Patrick) Angle; 14 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and a nephew.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rex W. Hatfield; her parents; her brother, Joseph Thrasher; her sister, Jan Thrasher; and her niece, Cathy (James) Hendrickson.
