COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater B.P.U. Board of Directors awarded a bid of over $1-point-7 million on Wednesday night from KLS Underground for this years lead service line replacement project in the fourth ward, Water/Sewer Manager Bryan Massey said it was the lowest of the submitted bids
It was the lowest of four bids submitted to Fishbeck Engineering. The State of Michigan is requiring water utilities to replace any lead or galvanized water service lines that are, or have been, previously hooked to a lead service.
Massey told the board that 1,200 service lines in the city were identified as meeting the criteria for replacement when the CBPU got a $3 million state grant in 2022,
The CBPU was originally planning to perform all of the replacement work. But with a three year deadline to complete the grant work, they brought in an outside contractor
Massey reported that over the past three years, approximately 620 services have been replaced, leaving a balance of 580.
