COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Projected rain through the weekend might help the Branch County area catch up, but the latest dry stretch has put the northeast portion of county into the U.S. Drought Monitor‘s “abnormally dry” category.
The rest of the county is still in the “no drought” category, even though we have fallen well short of the normal four inches of rainfall for a typical July.
Officials with the Drought Monitor say “abnormal dryness” or “drought” are currently affecting approximately 3,018,000 people in Michigan, which is about 31% of the state’s population.
Portions of the Thumb and extreme northeast portion of the lower penisula fall into the “moderate drought” category as of Thursday.
