Todd Kruse from Frontier-Verizon told Branch County Commissioners during their work session on Thursday that as of the end of March, nearly 3,600 customer locations were open for sale and the project is 77 percent complete.
Branch County partnered with the State of Michigan and Frontier Communications in 2024 on the project and work started in the spring of 2025.
The project will provide internet service to underserved areas of Branch County.
A total of 4,690 locations were eligible under terms of the Realizing Opportunity with Broadband Infrastructure Networks competitive grant, otherwise known as ROBIN, from the State of Michigan.
Besides the ROBIN grant, Branch County was approved for a $1 million U.S.D.A. grant and the Commissioners voted in March of 2023 to pledge $1 million of the county’s American Rescue Plan Act money to help fund the project.
