HILLSDALE, MI (WTVB) – Erika Kirk, CEO of Turning Point USA, delivered the commencement address at Hillsdale College on Saturday, honoring the legacy of her late husband, Charlie Kirk.
Speaking before approximately 5,000 attendees at the Biermann Center, she accepted honorary doctorates of public service for both herself and Charlie, who was assassinated in 2025.
Kirk’s speech moved beyond traditional career advice, urging the Class of 2026 to adopt a “blueprint for life” centered on faith and intentionality. She emphasized that graduates are entering a world that may not affirm their truths and encouraged them to find purpose through personal responsibility and a life-long pursuit of wisdom.
A central theme of Kirk’s address was the importance of family and traditional values, as she specifically encouraged graduates to marry young and prioritize building families. She told the roughly 400 graduates that marriage and child-rearing are not “secondary callings” but are essential to a rightly ordered life, famously quoting her late husband’s advice to “have more kids than you can afford”. While her remarks received a standing ovation from those inside the ceremony, the event drew a group of protesters outside who criticized Turning Point USA’s views on gender roles and education. Despite the outside tension, Kirk concluded her message with a patriotic plea for graduates to love and preserve the United States as they step into their new roles as independent citizens.
