COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The numbers continue to roll in for the Coldwater Board of Public Utilities’ Energy Optimization and Renewable Energy Program. Energy Optimization Manager Bob Granger delivered an update at Tuesday’s BPU Board meeting.
Over 2.4 million kilowatt hours in energy savings were realized throughout the system in 2017, resulting in a total savings of $253,141. Since the program began nine years ago, energy usage has been reduced by over 20 million kilowatt hours, saving customers an estimated $2 million.
Savings have been realized with the help of a rebate program for both residential and industrial customers; information is available at the Energy Optimization Department section of the city’s website, coldwater.org.
Fourteen percent of the BPU’s total power output comes from renewable energy thanks to the opening of the Coldwater Solar Field Park at the old Midwest Foundry site. This exceeds the 12.5% required by Public Act 342, the Clean, Renewable, and Efficient Energy Act.
