COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – After some tweaking to the original proposed plans a new Chick-fil-a restaurant is scheduled to be constructed in Coldwater at the former site of the Rite Aid store.
The Coldwater Planning Commission approved a Special Land Use Permit and the Site Plan on Tuesday night for the new restaurant at the southwest corner of U.S. 12 and Michigan Avenue.
The former Rite-Aid building has sat vacant since 2022.
The plans include demolishing the existing building on site and rebuilding a new structure consistent with the requirements of the zoning ordinance.
The Special Land Use Permit was required since the restaurant will have a drive through operating in the C-4 General Business District.
Conditions for the approval included a Stormwater Management Plan as well as having all proposed signage being revised to comply with city ordinances.
So now the question becomes when will they be open for business?
Leslie Accardo a senior project manager with the Pea Group, the company overseeing the design and construction of the building says they have the plans ready to submit today and are looking at late 2026 for opening
The 4,472 square foot building will have 72 seats inside and 16 more outside.
The chain has at least 28 locations in Michigan with plans to double that number by the end of 2028.
The typical hours of operation are Monday through Saturday from 5:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.
