MENDON, MI (WTVB) – Union City’s baseball and softball teams took the short trip down M-60 to Mendon Wednesday afternoon.
Baseball: Union City 11, Mendon 1 (5 innings)
The Charger baseball team held Mendon to five hits as they picked up an 11-1 victory in five innings. Nolan Chard was 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs, and Mitchell Graham drove in three runs. Micah Payne started and allowed three hits in three innings, while Cullen Decker threw the remaining two frames; neither pitcher allowed a walk. Union City improved to 17-8 with the win.
Softball: Mendon 14, Union City 13
The Charger softball team found themselves in an offensive showcase against the defending Division 4 champion Hornets. Mendon scored three runs in the sixth to break an 11-11 tie, and they held off a seventh-inning rally to beat the Chargers by one, 14-13. Ambrielle Phelps drove in five runs while going 2-for-5 with a double, Ellie Williams was 2-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs, Lauren Tundevold went 3-for-5 with a double, and Calli Wilkinson was 2-for-4 with a double. Union City fell to 14-11 with the loss.
Both Charger teams are back in action Friday against Centreville.
