BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – All of Branch County’s track and field teams ran at MHSAA Regional meets on Friday. At the end of the evening, eighteen individuals and four relay teams qualified for the Finals on May 30th by either finishing in the top two in each event or by meeting published qualifying standards.
Division 2 Regional at Sturgis
Coldwater was at the Division 2 Regional at Sturgis. The boys finished sixth with 64.33 points, while the girls were fourth with 62.33 points. Eight individuals and a relay team qualified for the Division 2 Lower Peninsula Finals at Hamilton.
For the Cardinal boys, Trevor Mitchell was second in the 400m. Travon Mitchell was a double qualifier, winning the boys 110m hurdles and placing second in the 300m hurdles. Bennett McDonald qualified in the 110m hurdles by virtue of his fifth place finish. Jackson Cilla was a double qualifier, winning the shot put and finishing third in the discus. And the team of Travon Mitchell, Mason Sabaitis, Drew Vanderpuyl, and Trevor Mitchell placed second in the 4x400m relay.
The Lady Cards had a triple qualifier: Miyah Moore was sixth in the 100m, fourth in the 200m, and second in the 400m. Marie Powers and Danika Cox finished 1-2 in the shot put, and Ella Grabowski qualified for the long jump with her third place finish.

Division 3 Regional at Hillsdale
Bronson, Quincy, and Union City ran at the Division 3 Regional at Hillsdale. On the boys side of the competition, Quincy was fifth with 70 points, Bronson finished ninth with 41 points, and Union City was 14th with 3 points. On the girls side, Quincy was fourth with 68.5 points, Union City placed seventh with 51 points, and Bronson was 12th with 21 points. A total of ten individuals and three relay teams from the three schools qualified for the Division 3 Lower Peninsula Finals at Kent City.
For Quincy’s boys, Chayse Jensen won the 800m, Clayton Benson was second in the 110m hurdles and first in the 300m, and Noah Rufenacht was third in the high jump and first in the long jump. The team of Grant Longardner, Jensen, Rufenacht, and Benson placed fourth in the 4x440m relay.
For the Oriole girls, Elizabeth Longardner won the 200m and 400m, and Brookelyn Parker was first in both hurdle races. Elizabeth Craig and Kendyl Musielewicz joined Parker and Longardner on the runner-up team in the 4x400m relay.
Qualifying for Bronson were Stevie Wilson, who was eighth in the boys 110m hurdles; Brayden Fritz, who was second in the boys shot put and first in the boys discus; and Miriam Sanchez, who finished third in the girls 800m.
For Union City, Kylie Creech was a double qualifier, placing fourth in the girls 100m hurdles and third in the girls 300m hurdles. Keira Taylor won the girls pole vault. And the 4×400 relay team of Emma Eyre, Creech, Lillian Eyre, and Attica Hoath qualified with a fourth place finish.

The regular season wraps up next week. Coldwater will be at the Interstate 8 meet Tuesday at Hastings, while Bronson, Quincy and Union City will compete Wednesday at the Big 8 meet, hosted by the Chargers at Alumni Field.
