UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – The Union City baseball team saw their ten-game winning streak come to an end at the hand of the Centreville Bulldogs, who shut out the Chargers 8-0 Friday at Alumni Field.
A pair of Centreville pitchers held Union City hitters to three hits on the day. Nolan Chard was 2-for-2, and Simon Swartzle had the other hit. The Bulldogs pulled away with five runs in the third inning.
The Chargers will take a 17-9 record to their doubleheader Tuesday at Maple Valley, the tenth-ranked team in Division 4 according to the latest Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Association rankings.
UNION CITY, MI – Union City’s softball team split with Centreville Friday. The Chargers won the opener 5-4, but the Bulldogs took the nightcap 4-2.
Union City scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to win the first game. Lauren Tundevold scored the game winner on Madison Krummrey’s two-out RBI single. Jezelle Nagel’s triple was the only extra-base hit in the entire contest. Starting pitcher Brooke Thomas recorded nine strikeouts.
In the second game, the Bulldogs scored all of their runs in the sixth. Ambrielle Phelps was 2-for-4 with an RBI, Maisyn Washburn also went 2-for-4, and Karlie Eagan had an RBI single.
The Chargers are now 15-12 on the season. They are idle until next Friday’s home doubleheader against Athens.
