ANGOLA, IN (WTVB) – Indiana State Police arrested a Coldwater man late Saturday night following a high-speed pursuit that crossed state lines.
The chase began in Branch County just before midnight when the Branch County Sheriff’s Department attempted to stop a white Mercury Mountaineer driven by 21-year-old Jefferson Ridgway of Coldwater.
Indiana State Police Troopers joined the effort after overhearing radio traffic as the vehicle sped toward the Indiana border.
The pursuit took a dangerous turn when the Mountaineer struck a metal garbage container, launching the bin into another vehicle and causing property damage.
Despite the collision, Ridgway continued to flee until he eventually crashed a second time near the 3000 block of Steuben County Road 700 North in Fremont, Indiana.
The second impact disabled the vehicle and allowed pursuing officers to safely take the driver into custody.
Ridgway was transported to the Steuben County Jail, where he faces multiple criminal charges. Authorities charged him with a Level 6 felony for resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, along with misdemeanor counts for possession of a controlled substance and leaving the scene of a property damage crash.
Ridgeway will also face charges in Branch County once he he released from custody in Steuben County.
