At its meeting Monday night, the Coldwater Board of Education approved the hire of Malorie Rzepka to succeed the recently retired Ken Smoker as the head coach of the varsity girls basketball team, pending a successful background check.
Rzepka graduated from Coldwater in 2019 and amassed 14 varsity letters during her high school days – four each in basketball and soccer, and three each in volleyball and track. She went on to Alma College, where she played four years of basketball and one year of soccer for the Scots. After her 2023 college graduation, she returned to her high school alma mater and coached the freshman girls basketball team for one year. Most recently, she has served as an assistant coach for the Kalamazoo College women’s basketball program.
Meanwhile, the Union City Board of Education approved the hire of Josh Vick as the eighth grade language arts teacher and varsity girls basketball head coach. He will succeed Tina Scheidler as the Chargers’ head coach.
Vick spent eleven years in the Climax-Scotts girls basketball program, serving as their JV coach and varsity assistant from 2008-2013 and as the head coach from 2013-2019. He has also spent time as an associate head coach with Glen Oaks women’s basketball, from 2022-2024.
