EAST LANSING, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Cardinal baseball team split a non-conference doubleheader at East Lansing on Wednesday. The Cardinals took the opener 8-2, while the Trojans won the nightcap 10-3.
In the first game, Coldwater broke open a close contest with five runs in the sixth. Dayton Ennis was 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and three RBIs, Finn Hanson went 2-for-4 with an RBI, Royale Fleming had an RBI double, and Owen Tappenden hit his seventeenth home run of the season, a two-run shot. Caiden Searing allowed one hit and struck out three in four innings of relief work to pick up the win.
East Lansing went up 4-0 early in the second game, forcing the Cardinals to play catch-up the rest of the way. Ennis went 2-for-4 with a double; he, Hanson, and Luke Stout each had an RBI.
Coldwater will take a 15-14 record to their Thursday doubleheader at Otsego.
READING, MI – Bronson won both ends of their Big 8 doubleheader at Reading by identical scores of 11-1 in five innings.
The Vikings put the first game out of reach with seven runs in the fourth inning. In that frame alone, Joe Fair and Rylan Fincham hit two-run singles, while Collin Webb had a two-RBI double. Warner Wotta allowed the lone Ranger run on two hits with no walks and eight strikeouts.
Bronson scored in every inning in the second game. Warner Wotta hit a 2-RBI triple, and Ben Stevens added a triple. Max Byler and Cooper Ferry each gave up just one hit in their stints on the hill.
With the wins, the Vikings finished the regular season at 19-12 overall and 10-4 in the Big 8. They will play a Division 3 Baseball Pre-District game Tuesday at Constantine.
