BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – The MHSAA Girls Soccer Tournament ended just as quickly as it began for Coldwater and Bronson on Wednesday, while Quincy survived and advanced.
Division 3 Eaton Rapids District: (at) Quincy 4, Napoleon 3 (SO)
Quincy hosted Napoleon in the opening round of the Division 3 Eaton Rapids District, and the Orioles recorded a 4-3 win in a shootout.
Quincy trailed 2-0 at halftime before Laura Bostic scored twice in the first twenty minutes of the second half to knot the game at 2-2. The Orioles then took a 3-2 lead briefly, but the Pirates got the equalizer with ten minutes left in regulation. The score was 3-3 at the end of regulation and through both overtime periods. In the shootout, Quincy prevailed 4-2, with goals from Bostic, Olivia Carpenter, Klohie Crall, and Victoria Francis.
The Orioles improved to 11-4 and will face Eaton Rapids next Tuesday, May 26, at 5.p.m. in the first game of a District Semifinal doubleheader at Eaton Rapids. The winner will face either Michigan Center or Columbia Central next Thursday for the District title.
Division 2 St. Joseph District: Stevensville Lakeshore 8, (at) Coldwater 0
Coldwater hosted Stevensville Lakeshore in the first round of the Division 2 St. Joseph District. The Lancers led 5-0 at halftime and won 8-0 to end the Cardinals’ season at 8-8-1.
Division 4 Maple Valley District: (at) Hanover-Horton 2, Bronson 1 (SO)
Bronson traveled to Hanover-Horton in the opener of the Division 4 Maple Valley District. The Vikings lost to the Comets 2-1 in a shootout.
Amy Barajas scored her first high school goal in the second half, assisted by Itzel Albarran, to tie the game at 1-1. Riley Graham made 18 saves in goal as Bronson wrapped up their season at 6-12-1.
