COLDWATER TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – A 46-year-old tractor mower operator from Coldwater was seriously injured Thursday when the tractor he was operating alongside southbound I-69 was struck by a semi tractor-trailer near the Newton Road overpass in Coldwater Township.
MSP says t he crash occurred around 12:30 p.m.
The mower operator was airlifted to Beacon Hospital in Kalamazoo with serious injuries. The semi driver sustained minor injuries and was transported to Bronson Battle Creek for observation.
Southbound I-69 was closed for approximately 8.5 hours following the crash and reopened around 9 p.m. last night, MSP says both drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident.
According to a release Friday morning, investigators believe drugs may have been a contributing factor but say additional testing and a follow up are still needed.
MSP was assisted at the scene by the Branch County Sheriff’s Office, Coldwater Police Department, Coldwater Fire Department, and LifeCare Ambulance.
