COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Coldwater man was ordered to serve between five and 15 years in the Michigan Department of Corrections Monday in Branch County Circuit Court after he entered no contest pleas to a pair of amended charges in connection with last October’s sexual assault of a 68-year old woman in her Ovid Township home.
34-year-old Travis Walker entered his no contest pleas to charges of third degree criminal sexual conduct by force and assault with intent to commit sexual penetration.
The charges will run concurrently and Walker will have to register with the State of Michigan as a sex offender. He was given credit for 248 days already served in jail.
An original charge of first degree criminal sexual conduct causing personal injury was dismissed by prosecutors in exchange for the no contest pleas.
Walker was arrested following a Michigan State Police investigation.
State Police say the victim called 911 on the night of the incident and told the dispatcher she had been attacked by an acquaintance of several years who had been visiting her.
Walker fled from the scene but was arrested a short time later at his residence.
The woman was treated and released at what was then the Community Health Center of Branch County
