THREE RIVERS, MI (WTVB) – The United Auto Workers (UAW) and American Axle & Manufacturing have reached a tentative contract agreement, successfully ending a ten-day strike at the manufacturing facility in Three Rivers.
Under the newly negotiated terms, employees are poised to see their wages rise to $30 an hour by 2030, provided the contract is ratified by union members.
UAW President Shawn Fain heavily praised the agreement, declaring that the union successfully won “back nearly 20 years of struggle” for its workforce.
The proposed four-year deal delivers significant local economic impacts and enhanced quality-of-life benefits for the union members.
Josh Jager, the bargaining chairman for UAW Local 2093, emphasized that the wage increase represents a boost of over 36 percent to their top pay rate, stating it “will change the lives in Three Rivers and across southwest Michigan.”
In addition to the substantial wage hikes, the tentative agreement freezes healthcare premiums for the next four years and expands the union’s paid time off by adding Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Veterans Day as paid holidays.
