COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – An elderly man was injured early Thursday in Branch County when the car in which he was a passenger collided with a deer in Coldwater Township. The accident south of Coldwater on I-69 northbound near Fenn Road happened shortly before 5:30 a.m.Thursday.
Michigan State Police say the car was driven by a 56-year old woman from Delphos, Ohio. The passenger in the front seat was her 86-year old father, who was using an oxygen tank. Troopers say the man ingested dust from his airbag after it deployed, causing some breathing difficulties. He was taken by Life Care Ambulance to ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital where he was treated and released.
State Police say the 2018 Chevy SUV they were riding in was totaled in the crash.
According to troopers, the woman and her father were on vacation when the deer they saw that was suddenly standing in the middle of the highway prompted an unavoidable accident and an unexpected delay in their plans to reach their destination of Traverse City.
